An exceptional medieval site in the heart of Renaissance castles, discover the Montrichard Fortress built on a natural rocky spur which dominates the town and offers an exceptional view of the Cher valley.

Its majestic square tower, to the top of which you can climb, was built in the 12th century to watch over the valley.

In the 15th century, at the foot of the keep, King Louis XI had very large royal residences built overlooking the Sainte Croix church, which was then the castle chapel.

The Montrichard Fortress was classified as a Historic Monument in 1877.

For this year 2025, the Municipality of Montrichard Val de Cher offers you a new feature within the walls of the Fortress: the creation of a medieval and medicinal garden. The Town Hall's green spaces department, the driving force behind this project, is working to create a quality garden for you. The creation of raised beds using the tree prunings on this site, the shredding of branches collected from the Donjon to make mulch on site, the use of leaf mold and homemade compost at the green spaces workshops, and the purchase of future plants from local producers: everything is done to create a garden with a low ecological impact.

The Renaissance period leaves behind a fabulous heritage of castles and major buildings . From this period, we also remember the great names who set foot in the lands of Touraine. Leonardo da Vinci, Diane de Poitiers and the Medici ... It is the artistic effervescence that comes down to us!

The castles of the Loire, numerous along the royal river , can be visited on land as in the sky. To tackle this magnificent journey in the Center-Val de Loire, climb into the hot-air balloon basket, it will take you on an exceptional first flight. Chenonceau, Amboise, Chaumont-sur-Loire ...So many grandiose architectural marvels seen from the sky.

Your flight program

The flight route is determined by the direction of the winds . It is according to the altitude, the wind and the experience of the balloonist that the course takes shape.

- You are welcomed to the site confirmed earlier. The pilot, passionate about the profession, introduces himself and you get to know the team.

- The activity begins with the pre-flight briefing which includes safety instructions, an explanation of the flight process, as well as the operation of the hot air balloon.

- You can now get into the basket . The pilot inflated the envelope, the burners are in action! The balloon rises gradually in the sky, for a calm trip above Loir-et-Cher and Touraine .

- When the getaway ends, the pilot lands on suitable ground .To celebrate this beautiful flight, you will enjoy a friendly moment with the pilot and the crew on the landing site. For morning flights: breakfast with artisanal products and homemade cakes. For evening flights: wines and local products.

Overflown places

During your flight, you can see several châteaux (the route depends on the wind, you can see at least one of the châteaux of the Loire): château de Chenonceau, Amboise, Chaumont sur Loire, Montrichard ... But also vineyards of the Touraine and the Loire.

This easy, looped circuit in a natural forest environment allows you to discover the beautiful national forest of Montrichard which belongs to the State and is managed by the National Forestry Office.
The forest is full of game: deer, wild boar, roe deer, badgers, foxes, martens, polecats, etc ... We will make sure to park the car in the parking lot of the Patte d'Oie crossroads (on D28) to browse this magnificent forest of 1042 hectares which produces excellent wood for construction (from logs) and heating (with the crown). These are mainly sessile oaks and pedunculate oaks, but other species are found because biodiversity is important. The forest is 80 to 150 years old with a density of 50 to 80 trees per hectare. Some trees are marked 1.20 m from the ground with a red circle: they will be felled, others with a white circle: they must still grow. Some large oaks reach a respectable age of 500 to 800 years.
Beautiful and wide alleys crisscross the forest, crossing at a large star-shaped crossroads: the Rond du Roy.
